LMDA 2018: Crossing Borders

Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas was founded in 1985 as the volunteer membership organization for the professions of literary management and dramaturgy.

LMDA's 2017 Bly Creative Capacity Grant awardee Amy Brooks (Roadside Theater) will describe how institutional dramaturgs from three Appalachian community centers of power – Roadside, Appalshop’s Letcher County Culture Hub, and Virginia Tech‘s VTArtWorks Initiative – are partnering with digital design cooperative CoLab to create a web-based organizing site to catalyze and support the development of community-based plays. This dramaturg-curated website will connect artists and cultural organizations with each other, with humanities and social science programs in higher education, and with other institutions exploring the role theater plays advancing justice in communities with histories of cultural and economic exploitation.
